A new solidarity emporium opens in the heart of the Esquilino District, the Slow Social Market. This innovative service provides fair, healthy, and sustainable food distribution, funded through the Eight per Thousand Waldensian funds and the Municipality of Rome I.
The emporium is unique in its kind because it aims to achieve the dual objective of reaching families in economic difficulty through the activities of Nonna Roma, and promoting the right of everyone to access healthy and quality food from fair and sustainable production chains, thanks to the commitment of Slow Food Roma. This project comes to life in Esquilino with the support of Pòleis Civic Hub Esquilino, a collaborative ecosystem that will support the project through the extensive territorial network it gathers. The Slow Social Market will operate in a premises seized from organized crime, now returned to the community through collaboration with Libera Roma, for a public and social reuse of mafia assets. An important step towards building solidarity and promoting a different economic and social model that combines the fight against poverty, environmental sustainability, and social anti-mafia efforts.
